By their very nature, your teeth experience a tremendous amount of wear and tear throughout your lifetime - and that’s not even taking into consideration decay, accident or injury.

For those with missing teeth, it can affect their confidence and ability to enjoy social activities or even chew their food properly. Happily, Quayside Dental and Implant Centre are here to help repair your smile with a strong and long-lasting solution - a dental implant.

In the last 3 years alone, our Implant Team, headed by the respected Peter Hughes, has successfully placed more than 500 implants to very satisfied patients.

Peter is the principal dentist at Quayside Dental & Implant Centre

What Is An Implant?

Dental implants are an amazing high-tech solution for the permanent replacement of lost teeth.

The process begins with the latest in 3D scanning technology to help us create a tailor-made tooth, or teeth, that will blend in seamlessly with the natural teeth surrounding it.

This tooth is held in place by a small screw-type device made from the highest grade (Type IV) titanium that we place into your jaw bone. This acts as the tooth’s root and they don’t rely on other teeth for support.

When the process is finished the implant looks and acts just like a natural tooth - and doesn’t wiggle or move around like a bridge or denture.

WHAT OUR IMPLANT PATIENTS SAY

Mandy had crown problems before she came to Quayside Dental. She was very nervous before she came to the practice but everyone at Quayside was brilliant and she would highly recommend Quayside Dental.

Tom has been attending Quayside dental for around 15years now.

DENTAL Implant Advantages

A PERFECT SMILE WITH A NATURAL LOOK AND FEEL

One of the most significant and most pleasing, advantages of a dental implant is its natural look and feel.

But implants also have many other important and less obvious advantages including:

Preserve Your Natural Appearance Implants help prevent oral bone loss and preserve your natural facial contours.

Protects Your Remaining Teeth Unlike other tooth replacement treatments, implants normally don’t require any alterations to the surrounding teeth. They are also easier to keep clean which can improve your overall oral hygiene.

Convenience Implants are permanently fixed in place so you never have to worry about removing them or using messy adhesives.

Eating Is A Pleasure Again Get ready to eat all your favourite foods again! Because they act just like your natural teeth, implants let you enjoy crusty bread, sticky toffees (in moderation of course!) and other foods you simply can’t eat with dentures.

Sedation For anxious patients or more complex implant treatments we can offer a light sedation.

A Confidence Booster With a dental implant, your smile can be restored to its original glory and help you feel more confident in your appearance. Never worry about embarrassing denture slips again!

Improved Speech Unlike dentures that can slip when you talk, implants stay securely in place.

More Comfortable Implants literally become part of you so you’ll never experience the discomfort of removable dentures ever again.

A Long-Lasting and Beautiful Solution We’ll say it one more time - implants simply look and feel more like your natural teeth- which means they’re amazing! Best of all, if you take care of your implant with regular check-ups and good oral hygiene, they offer you the best long term dental solution!

Definitely Worth the Wait

Unlike a traditional bridge or denture, the dental implant process can take anywhere between 6 to 9 months to complete - depending on individual circumstances for emample health conditions and risk factors such as smoking and gum disease.

Also worth noting is that our reputation at the Quayside Dental and Implant Centre means you may have to wait a while before we can begin the treatment- so if you’re thinking of getting an implant you should call us soon for a consultation.

IMPLANT OPTIONS

At Quayside Dental and Implant Centre we offer the following implant options:

SINGLE IMPLANT/CROWN

In cases where patients are only missing one tooth, a single implant can be the ideal solution. The implant will look and feel very similar to the natural teeth surrounding it and will be very easy to care for.

MULTIPLE IMPLANTS

Multiple implants are inserted in cases where patients are missing two or more teeth. Our ability to perform multiple implants will depend on bone levels and overall oral health.

IMPLANT SUPPORTED FIXED DENTURE

Think of implant supported fixed dentures as a much more comfortable set of false teeth- only permanent. The dentures are securely anchored to several dental implants in your jawbone and once they are set in place you no longer have to worry about messy adhesives or removing them for cleaning.

IMPLANT RETAINED DENTURE

An implant retained denture is held securely in place by a number of dental implants, meaning it is stable in function, doesn’t cover your palate and makes it easier to eat and speak naturally. Unlike implant supported fixed dentures, these can be removed for cleaning.

Peter has a lot of very happy patients travelling from all parts of the City, County and beyond, who have referred countless friends and family. Peter also has a referral base of over 100 dental colleagues.

As well as being a respected and very talented implant clinician with a reputation for getting amazing results, he is a relaxed and down to earth golf nut.

Here’s Peter in his own words:

I believe the greatest satisfaction as a dentist comes through helping patients understand what’s possible and working with them to achieve their aims. Whether it’s a simple filling or restoring their smile, I always involve patients in decisions about their treatment so they feel relaxed and empowered about their choices.

In short, I enjoy working with people to help improve their smile and self-confidence.

To enhance my knowledge with the latest advances in dentistry I have been to Fort Lauderdale, Chicago and Verona as well as completing an intensive year course in the world-renowned Eastman Dental Institute in London.

I have a special interest in dental implants and received my qualification in Dental Implants at the Royal College of Surgeons, London in 2012. Over the years I have developed a loyal referral base of over 70 dentists.

LOVELY COMMENT FROM LYNDA

Lynda's smile before treatment

Lynda's smile after treatment

I cannot stop smiling since Peter and his team restored my smile. I never thought I would smile BIG again.

Peter and his team especially Rebecca and Laur -  the gentlest hygienists I have ever had. They are all wonderful. I feel they have been with me every step of the way during my procedure and follow up treatment. I truly believe they all genuinely care about the outcome of my implant procedure.

The reception staff are always courteous and friendly and make me feel welcome.

Two points that make this team outstanding is

1. Peter opened the surgery on a Saturday to sort a small problem that I felt could have waited till Monday.
2. Laura presented me with a lovely bright red lipstick after I had mentioned to her that I had not worn lipstick for a long time.

These personal touches have gone a long way in making the scariest time into something special.

Thank you all
Lynda x

QUESTIONS? WE HAVE ANSWERS!

ARE IMPLANTS RIGHT FOR ME?

Implants are quickly becoming the treatment of choice for people missing anywhere from a single tooth to all of their teeth. And though we believe implants are one of the best ways to treat our patients, not everyone is suitable to have them put in place. Also, implants may not be right for you if you have a history of gum problems.

DO IMPLANTS HURT?

The short answer is: No. In fact, many of our patients compare the treatment similar to having fillings placed. However, like any major procedure, there is a small risk of slight discomfort so we use a local anaesthetic to help ensure you won’t feel any pain. In the days following, as the implant begins to heal, you may feel some slight tenderness but it can usually be managed with some over-the-counter pain relief.

HOW MUCH WILL THE IMPLANTS COST?

There are many things to consider when it comes to the final cost of your implant.

But as a general rule costs start from £1936 for a single implant.

HOW LONG WILL MY IMPLANT LAST?

Dental Implants are the most successful treatment to replace missing teeth. Here at Quayside Dental and Implant Centre we believe that if you strictly follow our aftercare regime, attending for regular dental and hygiene visits your implant will give you the best long term dental solution.

THE IMPORTANCE OF

DENTAL IMPLANT AFTERCARE

Whilst You’re Recovering

Once you have undergone the procedure to implant the titanium screw into your bone, you will need to take some extra time and care to allow it to heal properly.

As with any dental procedure where we use anaesthetic, you will need to be careful that you don’t cause injury to your tongue, cheeks and lips. Be careful when chewing and it’s best to avoid hot food and drinks until the numbness has completely worn off.

Medication

We will provide you with medication and written instructions on its proper use when your procedure is finished. Please follow the guidelines carefully.

IMPORTANT: If you have an adverse reaction to the medication, contact our practice immediately for advice. If it happens out of hours please contact your doctor.

Exercise

Any strenuous exercise (such as sports, heavy lifting, etc.) should be avoided to reduce the chances of causing bleeding around the dental implant. Our advice is that you rest as much as possible for the remainder of the day.

Eating

To avoid any excessive pressure on or around the area where we placed the implant(s) we recommend that you eat a reasonably soft and nutritious diet for at least two weeks to make sure it heals fully and properly.

Smoking & Alcohol

Smoking and drinking alcohol can slow down the healing process and cause other problems as well.

We advise you to avoid smoking and drinking for as close to 2 weeks as possible, after your implant has been placed.

Long Term Aftercare

Although dental implants won’t decay or erode like your natural teeth, the area around them is just as vulnerable to plaque and bacteria as it was before the treatment.

To make sure your implant remains healthy and strong in the future it’s important that you practice good oral hygiene, such as regular brushing and flossing and continue to see your dentist and oral hygienist regularly.

Hygiene

It’s very important that you practice good oral hygiene whilst your implant heals. To do this we suggest:

  • Carefully follow all the instructions provided in your aftercare pack.
  • Gently brush the treated area for the initial healing phase, then brush as normal once the sutures have been removed.

PLEASE Remember

A high standard of oral hygiene is vital to help maintain the health of your implant both during the healing process and regular hygienist visits after are also a must.
